BIG PICTURE THINKING. PRACTICAL APPROACH. SUSTAINABLE DESIGN.

While today there is increased emphasis on implementing green-inspired sustainable solutions, energy conservation has been practiced by Elara’s principals since the 1980s and has continued since the firm’s inception in 2001. Sustainable solutions remain the cornerstone of current and completed projects throughout Elara’s history.

Therefore, our philosophy and design approach is nothing new to Elara. Regardless of new or existing construction, designs are always made with the intent to benefit our clients in the future and to reduce the carbon footprint on the environment. While we continue to identify, investigate, and assess new technologies and design approaches, some of the green/sustainable solutions we frequently employ include:

  • Geothermal
  • Radiant Heating & Cooling
  • Chilled Beam
  • Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF)
  • Displacement Ventilation
  • Dedicated Outside Air Systems (DOAS)
  • Natural Ventilation
  • Heat Recovery
  • Natural Lighting
  • Intelligently Controlled Buildings
  • Solar Thermal
  • Solar Photovoltaic
  • Wind Power

The quality of our sustainable technology recommendations is a major differentiator that separates Elara from the competition and we believe our strong record of recognized achievement and awards represents our passion for proven results.

“Energy Use First” Approach

Clients’ goals are achieved by making old and new buildings operate as efficiently as possible. Over half of Elara’s projects start with an energy audit or study to determine where and how a building’s energy is utilized.

Once completed, the original design of older buildings is then analyzed and our engineers have the responsibility to ask the simple question: Where is the energy going? In older buildings, the intent of the original design can get lost or simply not be applicable anymore resulting in an overuse of systems and components that are not necessary for the building to function properly or in modifications that have been made over the years. Elara engineers locate where energy is being utilized and then make specific recommendations on how to optimize energy efficiency within a building. Clients are then educated so they understand how Elara’s recommendations will function for optimal energy use in the future and can make confident, informed decisions on how to proceed.
