Elara Engineering Associate Principal, Adam Sanders and Senior Engineer, Chris Frauens, PE, CPD recently co-authored a featured article in the 2025 Autumn issue of Chicagoland Buildings & Environments entitled “Proactive Fire Pump Replacements: Why the Need is Increasing”.
In the article, the authors inform readers that fire pump replacement projects are becoming increasingly common as aging equipment, lack of available replacement parts, evolving codes, and stricter testing requirements converge. These projects require a detailed understanding of both logistical and code compliance challenges as fire pump replacements are not a one-size-fits-all endeavor and can require significant time to plan and implement.
Given all of this, it is recommended that building owners not wait for a fire pump failure and should take a proactive approach to fully leverage expert guidance to ensure fire pump systems are safe, compliant, and built to meet today’s demanding standards.
