Elara Engineering is pleased to announce that Adeline Reynolds-Tallant, first-year student in Loyola University Chicago’s (LUC) School of Environmental Sustainability (SES), has been named as the first recipient of the McLauchlan Scholarship. As a McLauchlan Scholar, the annual $10,000 award that Adeline has earned will help to ensure that her academic and career goals – as articulated below – are achieved throughout her 4-year college career.
“I chose Loyola’s School of Environmental Sustainability because its interdisciplinary curriculum aligns with my growing interest in sustainability and social justice. Being a student here will challenge me to deepen my critical thinking skills, which I will utilize to develop progressive solutions that honor all perspectives.”
~ Adeline Reynolds-Tallant
McLauchlan Scholarship
The McLauchlan Scholarship is equally funded by Elara Engineering and Don and Geri McLauchlan and is available to undergraduate students who are pursuing a degree in LUC’s School of Environmental Sustainability and have demonstrated academic merit, as determined by the University. The scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman and distributed to the same student on an annual basis for four years.
A Legacy and A Scholarship
Driven by a desire to celebrate a milestone birthday for one of Elara Engineering’s founding partners, Don McLauchlan — Elara’s leadership team determined that there could be no better and meaningful way to honor his amazing legacy than with a gift that would ensure the continued advancement of passionate engineering focused on sustainability through an investment in educating future students. Turning this recognition into reality, Elara pledged $5,000 annually to fund the scholarship and then, because of Don and his wife Geri’s personal desire to support students on their way to building a better future, they decided to match Elara’s $5,000 annual gift, increasing the scholarship to $10,000 each year.
“We are all part of one beautiful, connected world — people, animals, plants, the Earth, and the universe. Each of us has the power to make a difference. That is why we are proud to support young people and their unique gifts through this scholarship—to help build a brighter future for all.”
~ Don and Geri McLauchlan
Don McLauchlan, who continues to be an active contributor within Elara, has served as design engineer and Engineer-of-Record on numerous award-winning Loyola University projects, has continuously engaged as a mentor, teacher, and educational speaker to LUC students, serves on the Advisory Board for the School of Environmental Sustainability, and co-presents with numerous LUC staff members promoting LUC’s approach to energy and sustainability across its campuses. It’s easy for all those that know Don to see how close Loyola University is to his heart, which – in turn –extends to the core of the entirety of Elara.
We congratulate and commend Adeline on her award, and we wish her tremendous success as she works to make the world a better place through her future endeavors.
